Glenwood Park Potato Drop
CONGRATULATIONS!
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL POTATO DROP
Glenwood Park distributed 45,000 pounds of potatoes to local agencies (Harvesters,
Community Service League, Don Bosco Center, Newhouse, City Union Mission, etc.),
food pantries, and families on November 3, 2007. These potatoes were obtained through the
Society of St. Andrew. The potatoes, seconds not acceptable for the grocery stores, would have
normally ended up in a Minnesota dump. Instead they were gleaned from the fields to help feed
our local area families. Members of the Glenwood Park congregation, friends, Longview College
students, and members of William Chrisman's ACE club worked together to rebag the 100 pound
bags into smaller 5-10 pound bags. Thanks to everyone for their contribution of time and
manpower toward this major undertaking.
Angel Food Ministries partners with churches and community organizations throughout the country to help distribute food to those in need. For $30.00, people can receive a box of food containing both fresh and frozen items. Glenwood Park partners with Maywood Baptist Church to provide local distribution of this food. Individuals are needed to help with this monthly food distribution outreach.
Ongoing monetary support is given to the United Methodist Committee on Relief.
UMCOR provides disaster relief around the world.
The Festival of Sharing is a ecumenical outreach held each October in Sedalia, Missouri.

blankets, monetary support, etc.
VIM Mission Trips
The youth group participates each year in a conference sponsored volunteers in mission trip.
Their 2008 trip was to Omaha, Nebraska to work with various Nebraska Conference agencies,
ie. free lunch programs at community centers, the Big Garden Project, and homeless shelters.
Other trips have included the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma, Hurricane Katrina relief
in Mississippi, and Hurricane Rita relief in Texas.
We are currently looking for volunteers for an adult VIM team. VIM projects are available locally,
statewide, nationally, and internationally. Please let Pastor Wimberley know if you are interested
in being part of this valuable ministry.
A collection basket is provided in the church foyer for Community Service League donations.
These donations are taken to CSL on a monthly basis.
